I had a chance yesterday of trying the CC resume switch again and the way of increasing speed without using the accelerator, so when cruising I pressed the 'set' button on the end (I thought this was the right way) and this increased my cruising speed by about 3 to 4 mph every time. I tried to resume after braking but the car continued to slow so it's still not working.

Later in the day I was taking the family to mid Wales and thought the brake peddle was needing to be pressed harder to disengage the cruise control. Five minutes or so later I had quite a shock when trying to break from cruising again I found the brake peddle MUCH firmer than usual (almost didn't move at-all initially) and needed 2 very firm presses (which hardly slowed me at all) to disengage the cruise. By this time I was rather closer to the car in front than I felt confortable! I haven't tried it since.

Has anyone had similar experiences or know what might be the problem?

Should I risk trying it out again on a quiet road? I assume it would still disengage if I pressed the clutch or flicked the cruise switch off.

Thanks, Neil.

Sounds scary and not a little odd.

The brake pedal shouldnt be affected by the cc at all, the application of the brakes operate a switch (brake light switch?) which dissengage the cc. If you have a very heavy pedal then this would suggest a brake problem or a servo problem. I guess it is possible that the cc is affecting the servo if it is leaking the vaccume away.

The cc on my car has a push button on the end of the stalk, this temporarily disengages the cc allowing the car to slow but then resumes cc at the speed the car is going when you release it. There is also a sliding switch, sliding it towards the center of the steering wheel switches the cc off and sliding it the other way resumes or accelerates the car.

The 2.3 engine CC is vacuum operated - very common for the vacuum piping to have leaks but usually the CC is the first to go AWOL. Vacuum leaks and faulty/leaking brake servos are common Galaxy faults.

CC can be cancelled by stalk, clutch or brake.

Brake switch (another common problem) maybe faulty or badly adjusted as the lightest touch on brake or clutch should cancel CC.

Hard pedal is due to loss of brake vacuum.

Strange . My car has done about 280 miles of mixed driving in thelast 2 days and the brakes have behaved impecably. I haven't touched the CC yet. :-/

I've just thought, could it have something to do with my squeeky aux drive belt. I've been liberally spraying it with WD40 which stops the squeeking for a while, but when I did so today I also briefly sprayed a black wheel with metal bands on it behind the drivers wheel. When I did so the wheel stopped dead but the band belt was still travelling over it. I don't suppose this wheel has anything to do with the servo assist on the brakes? It felt like I might have lost servo assist for a few seconds.

Thanks,

Neil.

:D EEK!

Don't spray WD40 on your belts!!!! It will make them slip and deteriorate rapidly.

Don't know what this "black wheel" is you refer to.....sounds like air con clutch.....NO WD40 PLEASE!!

None of this has anything to do with your brake vacuum which is generated by the inlet manifold.

Oh my lord neiluk!!....listen to seatkid and read the instructions on the can of WD40!! specifically where it tells you NOT to put the stuff...you may have done more damage than good by spraying your belts with WD40!!...lordsalummy!!..

Just a little advice on using the cruise control from my experience:

Set speed ............. A single quick press on the SET part of the rocker switch.

Increase speed .................... press and hold the RESUME or + part of the switch until desired speed reached

Reduce speed ................... press and hold the SET or - part of the switch until desired speed reached

To resume set speed .............. A single quick press on the RESUME part of the rocker switch.

To cancel all ........ select switch to off or touch the clutch or brake pedal

To set new speed whilst pressing + or - ............ release and repeat with a quick press of the SET button

All agree?

now according to the hand book whick i kept....you cant use automatic speed control..(thats what its called in my little book here) unless you are travelling over 30mph...and also..engine overspeed can occurr if you shift to neutral without depressing the clutch pedal....and it should disengage if you press the clutch or brake pedal..or..if you have traction control and it is in active operation..

otherwise..yep..agree with you Sir...LOL.

20 mph on mine Mum .............

Hmm...must admit i never tried useing cruise control below umm.....60mph.......there has to be a reason why in my handbook it says that the speed of the vehicle cannot be automatically controlled unless the speed is above 30mph, yet Bleeno says 20mph?

Mine works from just over 20 too.

Also another way to change the set speed is to pull back the resume slider and hold it there for a couple of seconds, it then re-sets to current speed

I use mine in unfamiliar built up areas at 30 so I dont have to be on the lookout for Gatsos whilst I am trying to find my way around. Mind you the sat-nav covers both these tasks too.

Thanks very much all.

I Think on your advice I'll lay off the WD40 and put up with the noise for now! I'll see if I can pick up a Ford aux drive belt soon. There must be somewhere in Cardiff that sells them. Would it be OK to see if a new belt does the trick of stopping the squeek(as some people on the Froum have found) or would it be better to do the tentioner at the same time? If I can do without spending the extra I would prefer it.

Thanks,

Neil.

Thank crumbs for that!!..thought i had a dodgy handbook there!

A RESUME slider ..... mmmm .... don't have one of them. Arrr ... now I remember your cruise control stalk was totally different to mine Mum, if you remember, so perhaps thats when the set speed changed to above 20 MPH?

BigD might just have hit the nail on the head... Could it be a squeaky tensioner pulley?

Our CC works from about 30mph up.

Mine would only work from 30mph up...so why is it the bleenos and others can work from 20mph up???..i still cant understand why they would lower the speed for CC.??????
